We're surprised there's not more talk about the Academy Awards and Hollywood Boulevard. Hollywood Boulevard is one of the most crime-ridden and drug-infested areas of Southern California. According to the morning DJs on WLS in Chicago, they'll need to roll out extra red carpet to cover all the syringes. Hollywood Boulevard is so bad that the LAPD had planned to start their street-camera surveillance operations there, and the LA Times calls it one of the world's most famous and infamous streets. So where's all the symbolism talk? You know, "The Academy Awards cover the rottenness of Hollywood Boulevard like Hollywood movies cover the poison in America's soul"? Stuff like that? Seems like too easy a target to miss.
