I realize I'm not suppose to be blogging on Saturdays, but just one quick thing: If you want good writing, subscribe to Oxford American. I've been enjoying it for a little over a year. The newest issue came three days ago, and it's possibly the best issue yet. As I read it in bed last night, I just shook my head at the splendid writing, kind of the way a person might shake his head after seeing a remarkable athletic feat: "Just ain't right that someone is that good." One knock: It has a leftist slant (nothing bad, and I'm not even sure I'd call it "leftist," as much as "a solidly non-traditional view of things/modernist"), but the slant washes away in the enjoyable substance and excellent prose.
