Howard the Wise Man
But let's look at these people [on the Christian Right]. They want to take away a woman's right to choose. But these same people want to take away affirmative action. They want these children born, but they're not willing to take one of these children born into poverty and give him a handout so he can maybe get a break like George W. Bush got from his dad. God forbid we give an inner-city kid a couple of bucks to succeed in life and give him some hope. But they're moral and I'm immoral. Well, morality is a relative thing. And what about gay rights? They want to kill all the ... gays. That isn't moral to me. ...
It's not often you get so many straw men to beat up in one passage. *Pro-life is inconsistent with affirmative action? I'd never heard that one before, but I'm not sure when affirmative action become a matter of life-or-death. *Pro-lifers don't want to give handouts to poor people? Has Howard ever visited a pregnancy help center? They're often full of things that a mother needs to give her babies the necessities. Also, has Howard ever read Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams? Governmental hand-outs to poor families keep the families poor and degrade them. That's what Howard wants? *Morality is a relative thing? If that were true, Howard, you wouldn't have a career. There would be no innate sense of outrage at your antics. *The Christian Right wants to kill all the gays? That' simply laughable. The Christian Right rarely even talked about homosexuality, preferring to leave it alone as a private sin, until homosexuals started bucking for public recognition, thereby forcing the Christian Right to respond.
