Stem Cell Fraud
Most and possibly all of the human embryonic stem cell cultures reportedly made by a South Korean research team this year were fake, a member of the team told Korean news outlets yesterday.
This was the research team led by Dr. Hwang Woo Suk, the urbane and suave Korean whose suit-and-tie picture the major news papers splashed all over our country after he pulled off the stem cell stunt. And now it turns out to be a fraud.
Hmmm. I wonder what could've caused the righteous doctor to do such a thing. It's probably the F words: Fame and Fortune. There's a ton of money to be made in stem cells, just as a handful of doctors make a ton of money from their abortion mills.
The press tells us that embryonic stems cells will help the ill. I don't doubt that many of its advocates are motivated by that goal, but you can't tell me that money isn't also a driving force, especially for those in the field. That's not a bad thing, either. Money drives all sorts of developments that alleviate suffering and our level of comfort. But we shouldn't lose sight of the role of money and its corrupting influence when conducting the national debate.
