Miscellaneous Rambling
Here's a unique Top Ten list: Top 10 Catholic Cities, USA From sea to shining sea, these communities exude the Faith in their history, landscape and cultures. Unfortunately, I've only been to three of them: Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Chicago. I'm not sure I'd log Chicago into the Top Ten, but St. Louis and Pittsburgh are worthy.
Interesting piece from Rod Dreher: Hillbilly America: Do White Lives Matter? "Everything we are accustomed to hearing about black inner city social dysfunction is fully present among these white hillbillies, as Vance documents in great detail. He writes that 'hillbillies learn from an early age to deal with uncomfortable truths by avoiding them, or by pretending better truths exist. This tendency might make for psychological resilience, but it also makes it hard for Appalachians to look at themselves honestly.'"
I sat through the Ghostbusters trailer a few weeks ago. I sat aghast, wondering how anyone could craft such a miserable piece of excrement. It actually crossed my mind that it was a Saturday-Night-Live-type parody at first. It turns out the movie is no better than the trailer. It's getting a 3.8 at IMDB, which is a totally miserable score for a new release.
