St. James the Greater Basilica is getting an unexpected boost from Kraft Foods.
“We are proud to announce,” read a recent press release from the Diocese of Prague, “our new partnership with Kraft Foods. As part of our new cooperative arrangement, St. James the Greater Basilica will now be known as ‘The Ore Ida Potato Classic Basilica.’”
The Czech Republic, still suffering from a 600-year hangover of the proto-Protestant Hussite revolution, has seen Church attendance fall to all-time lows and its beautiful churches become increasingly empty.
“This is a way” said the Diocese spokesperson, “to modernize the Church and bring it to where the people are. Our people love potatoes.”
Anonymous sources within the Diocese say Kraft paid over $10,000,000 for the naming rights.
