TDVC Day is Here!

And as you've heard, the reviews aren't real good. Rotten Tomatoes has a great set of review blurbs [http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/da_vinci_code/]. A few of my favorites: > "You know a movie's a dud when even its self-flagellating

Jill the Ripper

Too busy today to offer much commentary, but this little piece shouldn't pass un-posted: Was Jack the Ripper a Woman [http://news.independent.co.uk/world/science_technology/article485887.ece]? The theory rests on DNA and no motive is offered. I found this interesting, though: > The

Posters from Hell

USSR, 1917-1991. Pretty neat. If you click on them, they have brief explanations (in English). I prefer older Russian posters like this one:

Go, Black Jack, Go!

> The city council in Black Jack, Mo., has rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together. The mayor said those who fall into that category could soon face eviction. [http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/17/national/main1625059.shtml] I find this fascinating. Where

More TDVC Fun

I'm enjoying this TDVC turmoil. The film is now getting poor reviews [http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/da_vinci_code/], and I think the boycott lure is making Sony a bit nervous. Heck, Howard has even suggested that people not see it: "My advice, since virtually no

I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/quotes] > Data from recent surveys indicate that liberals and people who are not regular churchgoers are more likely to believe the tales proposed in The Da Vinci Code about

Daily Office

Fr. Neuhaus has some nice words about the Liturgy of the Hours (a/k/a the Daily Office). Link [http://www.firstthings.com/onthesquare/?p=259], then scroll down a bit. It's a devilishly-difficult thing to get the hang of, but I try to hit the morning

What More is There to Say?

Pamela Anderson says vegetarianism results in more pleasure for a woman [http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2004580002-2006220470,00.html]. What more is there to say? Pamela said it, and she's rich and famous. And there's no conclusive proof that STDs rot one'

BC

I've heard that Boston College's "Catholicism" was pretty wretched, but hadn't read much about it. Campus Report has a pretty good piece on it [http://www.campusreportonline.net/main/articles.php?id=944]. Excerpt: > BC also hosts a Lambda Law Students

The New Yorker

The New Yorker has a good article about TDVC and Sony [http://www.newyorker.com/printables/fact/060522fa_fact]. The New Yorker is one of the most relentlessly-secularist publications in America, so it's significant when you see nuggets like these in its pages: > Dan Brown'
