Not much blogging this morning. I was up late with friends and family, auctioning off NCAA tournament teams. Each guy buys teams and earns back money for each win (all for charity, of course). We've been doing it for fifteen years and it's one of my favorite evenings of the year, but I get to bed much later than usual and am dragging the next day.

With the Tournament tipping off today, it's a good time for this stat:

But for most colleges, running a sports program is a money-losing proposition: of the 1,266 colleges and universities that were members of the NCAA in 2001, for instance, only forty-one had athletic departments that turned a profit.
