Long celebration yesterday. Drank some beer and wine, cleaned the house with Marie and the kids, took everyone to the drinking club for dinner, rented a movie (teen comedy John Tucker Must Die, which wasn't bad, but maybe because I slept through half of it). Today, I'm just taking it easy and resting up.

Is anyone besides me (sinfully?) enjoying this Rosie/Trump dispute? It's nasty stuff. Both have landed accurate--and therefore painful--blows. Rosie's bald criticism of Trump is too obvious to merit much comment, but I tend to agree with Trump's slightly-more nuanced analysis of Rosie: She's out of control. I'd even go a little bit further: She's out of control, and no one wants to stop her because she's the most visible lesbian in America and people in the entertainment industry don't want to take down a lesbian. I could be wrong, of course, but can anyone else explain how that unpleasant figure continues to get media time?

A sign that the fashion world hasn't gone wholly mad:

Italy's fashion industry on Friday signed a code of conduct aimed at fighting anorexia among women and the vogue for stick-thin models. The self-regulatory code, drawn up with the Italian government, requires models to show medical proof they do not suffer from eating disorders, bans models younger than 16 and calls for a commitment to add larger sizes to fashion collections.

Sounds like a moderate-enough approach, and it's better than the scary demand from some quarters that fashion designers use overweight models.

PSA: Blogging will be unsteady for the next week. I will post something every day, but the quality will be uneven (as if that's something new). I hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Years.
