Tuesday Trifles

Good weekend here. I got all my garden stuff in, except those items that I am purposefully holding back to produce a staggered harvest. * * * * * * * I had a rough time with tomatoes and sweet peppers this year. Only 30 of my sweet peppers germinated and my tomato seedlings don't look very good. I'm not sure what the problem is. I bought a bunch of pepper seedlings from an organic grower, so I should be fine there. With respect to my tomatoes, I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed. One of my two biggest tomato eaters, Abbie, is going to be gone this summer, so I won't need as many as usual. * * * * * * * A Forbes contributor leads off an article with this line: "Monday through Friday, 9 to 5. It's the schedule the vast majority of us in salaried positions follow, and have followed for the past several decades." With the exception of insurance agents, bankers, and investment advisers, I honestly don't know, and have never known, anyone who works 9 to 5: accountants, attorneys, journalists, school administrators, corporate officers, etc. * * * * * * * I hate cliched writing like that. Advice to writings: Use arresting introductions that are also accurate. * * * * * * * Jack and I went to Mad Max Sunday night. I can't believe it's getting 98% favorable ratings from movie critics at Rotten Tomato. I agree with the Rolling Stone review that says, "Does this ride down Fury Road always make sense? Not really." But whereas the reviewer says, "So what? Just go with it." I say, "Movies ought to have a coherent plot. This one doesn't, not at all. Stay away." * * * * * * * I bought a wheel hoe for use at the garden plots I rent ($10 a year for each big plot). It works great.
