Skeptical Saturday
I'm enjoying my new-found skepticism about everything the media tells us. I notice things that previously escaped my attention.
At 7:30 yesterday morning, the news reported that one of the Boston Marathon bombers had been killed in a shoot-out with police and a manhunt was underway for the other. At noon, I watched Fox News, and they reported that one of the Boston Marathon bombers had been killed in a shoot-out with police and a manhunt was underway for the other. Despite the complete lack of change in the story, the Fox anchors kept saying things like, "This story changes every minute" and "This day has turned on a dime" (both exact quotes; the former phrased used more than once). It was a complete lie: Nothing had changed, except for maybe the escaped suspect's physical location, but that didn't stop the anchors from repeatedly lying (not just exaggerating, but lying), claiming just the opposite.
And Tiger Woods was a great gentleman. And Iran had weapons of mass destruction. And the game is going to start at 6:20.
The media is a pile of lies, half-truths, and exaggerations.
I'm not even convinced there was a Boston Marathon bombing.
I know, I know: that's ludicrous, but I'm getting to the point that, if I don't see it in person or talk to someone I trust who saw it in person, I don't believe it. Is mine the worldview of a crackpot? Perhaps, but also the worldview of a man who has been lied to repeatedly his entire adult life. We should all be so nuts. The Powers That Be would get away with a lot less if we were.
Garden Point
Another complaint about the Back to Eden garden: I have tree saplings sprouting up everywhere. I've dug about well over 100 so far. It's not hard (I patrol the garden with a nifty hoe/rake combo hand tool, which I yield ruthlessly), but it seems the BtE people might have mentioned it.
