I must've missed the announcement: New political philosophy on web: [Front Porch Republic](http://www.frontporchrepublic.com/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). It looks like it's dedicated to a lot of the ideas I promote here. Though I'm more of a quasi-anarchist (I like to call myself an anarchist but know I'm not) than a distributist, they eat much of the same intellectual food. Check it out.

"[So, what's Notre Dame's problem? In short, Notre Dame's problem is precisely what was once Harvard's problem, Yale's problem, and Princeton's problem. It has symbolically begun a process of secularization that, if not stopped and reversed, will render it no longer Catholic in any meaningful sense and even eventually hostile to Christian faith](http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=479586&ref=thedailyeudemon.com)." Heck, that started over 30 years ago. I thought the process had been halted, maybe even reversed, with the advent of more orthodox Catholics on campus, but I guess I'm naive.

Meanwhile, Obama provides further evidence why he shouldn't receive an honorary doctorate from ND: [President Obama's nominee to head the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel once compared "forced pregnancy" with slavery. Now Republicans are considering a filibuster to block her confirmation](http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/04/obama-judicial-nominee-faces-republican-opposition-supporting-abortion-rights/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com).

[Review/essay about a new book about Gerard Manley Hopkins](http://www.newcriterion.com/articles.cfm/The-unspeakable-stress-of-pitch-4048?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). I've bookmarked it for later reading.

From the Notebooks (2004): Helpless he came to us, helpless he left us. Accountants might call it LILO: Lowly in, lowly out. He came to us as a baby and we took him in. He left us tortured and crucified and we helped lash him. Mary's "yes" is our glory; Pilate's nod is our shame. Let us celebrate now and cry later. And in both events, let us be thankful for a God that cares enough to send His Son to die for both of our faces.
