Holy Water at Wrigley
In an article about odd baseball remedies, we ran across this:
And then there's Cubs pitcher Mark Prior, whose manager resorted to a more conventional talisman to help his young ace recover from arm problems during spring training.
Dusty Baker doused Prior's inflamed right elbow with holy water, blessed by Pope John Paul II. Certainly, something was working for Prior as he made his delayed season debut with a dominating win over the Padres.
"There's something to it," said Baker, who isn't even Catholic. He added, "I just hope that my sinning doesn't negate the effectiveness of the water."
