Paying for One's Sins

The media is having fun with this one:

Kobe Bryant is still paying for his one-night stand.

The L.A. Lakers star shelled out $50,000 this week for a recommitment ceremony with his wife, Vanessa, who stood by him after he was accused of raping a hotel concierge two years ago.

Is Vanessa in the marriage for the money and glamor? Possibly (all right, all right: probably). But could she get half of his money and another NBA stud if she left him? Probably.

Let's face it: She doesn't need this marriage. But she's hanging in there and, as far as we know, keeping her promises. We give her credit.

And who knows. If Kobe stays clean, we might tip our hat to him in ten years.

We hasten (hasten, hasten) to add: we don't extend the same treatment to Hillary. Her political motives during Monicagate are pretty transparent. If anyone knows of any similar motives behind Vanessa's apparent loyalty, please post them in the comments section.
