# Noonan on Blogging

We read most everything we see about blogging, from Hugh Hewitt's book, *Blog*, to raving denunciations from the mainstream media. It helps us better understand what we're doing and, maybe just maybe, why we're doing it and how to do it better. The topic fascinates us in light of our McLuhan-inspired hobby of examining the effects of media. We're also fascinated because *TDE*  is experiencing exponential growth in hits and visitors, which is exactly what Hewitt predicted would happen. We were skeptical, but he is turning out to be right.

Anyway, Peggy Noonan defended bloggers in a column last week. If you're interested in the blogging phenomenon, it's worth reading. Her column debunks a few myths about blogging and sets forth five ways bloggers provide a public service, which can be summarized as follows: Bloggers quickly present information and analysis ignored or under-emphasized by the MSM, free of charge and without institutional constraint.
