Your Way All the Time
American Baby ran a piece recently about cesarean sections. It seems more Americans are having them instead of traditional births. Why? Various reasons, but one of the biggest: the mothers want to be in control of when the baby comes. As one woman explained, "It was about being able to manage my life the way I need to." The magazine says the "trend reflects a small but vocal group of women who want to bring the level of organization and control to their birth experience that they demand in the rest of their lives." American Baby, March 2005, p. 50.
Just another instance of the control freak mentality that has flooded our culture. We want to be in control at all times and in all areas, hence all those things that are so popular in our culture today, from the innocent to the sinful: remote controls, IPod, TiVo, contraception, abortion, euthanasia. And now C-sections on demand.
