Lukacs
We received a copy of ISI Book's new publication, Remembered Past: John Lukacs on History, Historians, and Historical Knowledge. It's a thick volume that we delved into immediately.
Eric had been acquainted with Lukacs for years, but hadn't read much of his writing. He read At the End of an Age last year and was excited to have found an author that brought him new insight without being difficult to follow.
Three kinds of writing can keep Eric's attention focused to the point that any interruption startles him: beautiful prose, penetrating insight, and passages of important-but-little-known facts. Nearly every page of Lukacs' At the End of an Age contained the first two, and there was a fair smattering of the third. When we saw that ISI had published a Lukacs reader, we requested it immediately. So far, we haven't been disappointed.
