I took my Dad out to the drinking club yesterday for his Father's Day present. Yeah, I know. The gift was a little late, but it's been a busy summer. So busy, in fact, that this was my first trip to the club in 2008. The bar maid asked me if I was a member. I yelled, "You know who you're talking to, woman?! I sat on the Board of Trustees! I helped build this place with my own hands! I donated building money! I jumped the Michigan Liquor Control Commission Hurdles of Hell to get the liquor license, then drove to freakin' Lansing to pick it up, walking to Pluto's gate and battling Cerberus with my bare hands! And you're asking me for proof of membership!!!!????"
Me at the Michigan Liquor Control Commission in 2003. I'm glad someone got it on film:
Okay, I didn't really say that. I kinda laughed and said to my Dad, "Shame on me. I used to tell people to join because, after all, it's the easiest charity in the world. Just visit twice a month and drink a few beers. If you do that, you're considered a good member. They have five taps and good prices. It's a no-brainer." And here I hadn't been to the club in eight months (actually, I tried to go last March, but they had a booking that night and I couldn't get in).
I'll start frequenting more often, especially now that the fall colors are around the corner. The place is beautiful in late September and October.

Fox Sports runs down the NFL's top ten fan bases. I'm disappointed Detroit didn't make the list. I can't really argue with the results (Cowboys, Bears, Iggles, etc.), but Detroit sells out every week and we haven't had a good team since 1991, and we haven't made the playoffs in about ten years.

The United States pulls ahead: USA 97, China 91. And it doesn't look like the Chinese have a whole lot of horses in the traditional track and field categories.
Incidentally, my Dad tells me that he doesn't think my way of counting medals (three for a gold, two for a silver, one for a bronze) is new. He's seen it before, and he's pretty sure that's how the media used to do it. He's not sure when they changed. Anyone have any input?
