Happy Independence Day!

I've never had that American beer, but I remember drinking *a lot* of this crap:

A hardy thanks to a TDE reader that mailed a big bottle of Andechser Weissbeer that she brought home with her from Germany. A most-righteous act of kindness. I haven't drank it yet, but [the Beer Advocate gives it an "A."](http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/911/3995/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) Not too many beers earn that high grade. I'm looking forward to drinking it this weekend.

Other TDE readers take note. I don't have a PayPal donation button, but beer shipments are always welcomed.

[A convenience store became an unwilling drive-in when a 74-year-old woman plowed her car through the front window and then tried to buy a six-pack of Budweiser, police and the owner said](http://abcnews.go.com/WaterCooler/wireStory?id=5285986&ref=thedailyeudemon.com). Makes sense. She probably didn't need more beer so she opted for something else.

Those flare bartenders can really turn on the charm: [A bride who married on a beach in Cuba has dumped her husband for a bartender she met at the wedding reception.](http://www.kutv.com/content/news/watercooler/story.aspx?content%5Fid=04faaf79-4f82-487b-8a59-bb8109652c03&ref=thedailyeudemon.com)

My wife is now officially banned from all bars.

Why do most brewers use brown bottles? [Catholic Beer Review explains](http://catholic-beer-review.blogspot.com/2008/07/clearly-wrong-container.html?ref=thedailyeudemon.com):

> The ultraviolet light in sunlight reacts with chemicals in the beer to produce . . . skunking. Brown bottles filter out the light at these wavelengths and so protect the beer. Clear bottles don't; neither do green bottles. And although commercial beer isn't likely actually to sit out in the sun for any length of time, there is UV light in indoor florescent lighting as well. So although the required exposure time is longer, the effect can be the same: a degraded product over time.
