Stream of Consciousness Thursday

Long baseball game last night, almost three hours. The other team ran out of pitchers in the last inning. We were losing 8-6. After we finished batting, we were up 18-8. My son Jack struck out the side to end the game. Most righteous. After that, I came home and ate dinner then went to bed. Absolutely dragging now. Tonight I start my summer religion lessons with the three older kids. We're reading The Screwtape Letters and miscellaneous other things. If I were more motivated, I would've come up with a C.S. Lewis syllabus for the summer: Screwtape, Till We Have Faces, key passages from Mere Christianity, a few essays, and, for sadistic purposes, Studies in Words. But I'm neither that motivated nor that sadistic. We'll go to a local watering hole patio tonight to discuss the first ten Screwtape letters. They'll drink Cokes. I'll drink, well, whatever the heck I want. I'm over 21. I think it's good for them to enjoy adult conversation, in an adult atmosphere, while someone--can't be them--drinks adult beverages. But I won't be so wiped out tomorrow morning that I can't do Brews You Can Use. I already have a story or two lined up (including this one that broke just as I was typing this). I think there's a dog-drinking story out there. I just hope it's not a toilet-drinking thing. Then again, Budweiser is a toilet thing and I blog about it all the time. And speaking of blogging. I'm doing SoC today because I'm short on time and patience, and something is wrong with my computer. I don't know what's going on. It's running slow. I bet those two sentences--"something is wrong with my computer" and "I don't know what's going on"--get juxtaposed more than any two other sentences. Other contenders: "Do you want another beer" and "Heck yes," "Is that your cigarette, son?" and "Heck no" (big among the 10-year-old crowd), and "My parents are coming down for the weekend" and "I can't breath. My arm hurts. I think I'm having a heart attack." There are probably others. Like maybe this one: "Time's a runnin'" and "I gotta get going."
