Are you sleepy this morning! WAKE UP! with Larry Craig. According to an email I received, he uses this saucy guy wannabe in addition to bathroom stalls. I have no idea if this link is legit, but if it is, it's further evidence that sin procreates faster than Catholic rabbits. One sin leads to other sins, which then branch out themselves. It's a fundamental spiritual truth that doesn't need evidence, but the truth is lost on today's pop culture so it's good to find evidence to help convince the intellecto-spiritually (metaphysically) crippled.

I need to come up with a word that means "Intelligent about spiritual matters." I can't simply use the word "intelligent" because that could include anything mental. I can't simply use "spiritual" because that's too vague and includes Druids and New Age types. For now, I've coined "intellecto-spiritual," but that's kinda lame.

I'm taking suggestions. Coin your own, or if you know of a word that isn't too daunting ("metaphysical" is probably the best word, but very few know what it means), please let me know.

Poor man's Tivo: NBC launches NBCDirect. I tried it and it works. You can watch TV shows at any time, you can fast forward, jump to different parts, etc. Pretty cool. Information (required operating system, etc.) can be found here:

NBC Direct beta is currently only available to residents of the United States and only works with Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on Windows XP or Vista, for the moment so once again, Firefox and Mac users will be left out.
As of right now, only shows from the current season are available to watch and there aren't that many to choose from if you want to download a full episode to your computer. Shows available for download include the previous episodes of Bionic Woman, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock and The Office and even more are available for online viewing but not download. It's almost certain that further selections will be added in the future.

My current column is at The Register website (subscription required). Excerpt:

You might ask me: “Scheske, why'd you spend so much time thinking about the archetypal blog post? Your seven kids and wife not keeping you busy enough?”
It's a fair question, and I don't have an answer. I can only respond: I think about archetypes a lot. I think everyone does, though they don't refer to “archetypes.” They refer to “the ideal” or “the perfect model.” The ideal or perfect model of anything interests people, whether it's the perfect baseball player, the perfect house, the perfect statesman. People intuitively want to know: What should a thing be?
Man's search for archetypes, ideals and perfect models is merely the search for what should be. The search has been around for thousands of years.
“Ideas,” wrote Plato scholar Allan Bloom, “are the justification of the philosophic life.” If a person doesn't inquire after the ideal, he has stopped reaching for the higher things.

Yesterday was the memorial of St. Martin. I should've posted one of my favorite quotes from Henri Gheon's St. Martin of Tours: "It has been said a hundred times and we must keep saying it: grace does not destroy nature; it fertilizes and elevates nature. No sort of man is more sensible than a saint."

Real or fake? A going-away cake supposedly ordered from Wal-Mart. The worker interpreted the verbal inscription instructions very narrowly:
