Not much today. I'm off work and hope to get some serious writing done . . . in addition to going to Mass, attending tonight's high school football opener with my football-wild sons, helping with my daughter's birthday party (she became a teenager yesterday; she hasn't started sassing yet, knock on cyber wood), and handling sundry matters in the nine-person household. Just a few things, then BYCU:

In light of the Oriole massacre two days ago, [this ESPN writer came up with a great list of thrashings](http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=schoenfield/070823&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines). . . . Remind me not to fish with my shirt off: [Vladimir Putin has become a gay icon after being photographed with his shirt off while fishing](http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm%5F2477442.html?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) (Drudge linked to another article on the same story yesterday, but this link emphasizes the gay angle, thereby increasing its humor) . . . "May I come in, or are you busy lying on your cot or lying on your cot or lying on your cot? [Prison wardens have been urged to show respect to inmates by knocking on cell doors before going in](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/08/24/nprison124.xml&ref=thedailyeudemon.com).

**Brews You Can Use**

In case you missed it: [A police report was lodged yesterday against a Tamil newspaper for publishing a front-page picture of Jesus Christ holding a cigarette in one hand and a can of beer in the other](http://www.nst.com.my/Current%5FNews/NST/Thursday/National/20070823083524/Article/index%5Fhtml?ref=thedailyeudemon.com).

My church's basement has a picture of Jesus playing horse shoes. Is that much different than Jesus with a beer? Neither picture shows the proper reverence due the Son of God, but neither portrays him sinfully, either. I'll withhold judgment until I see the picture.

Lookin' for expensive beer? Then you ought to be ashamed of yourself, but nonetheless, [you can find them here](http://www.socyberty.com/Lifestyle-Choices/Top-3-Worlds-Most-Expensive-Beer.40307?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). $52 to $79 a pint.

I'll stick with Schlitz.

[Another story about craft beer's skyrocket growth](http://www.brewblog.com/brew/2007/08/craft-crazy.html?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). Craft beer is hip. But with a bit more success, it'll cease being hip (if it hasn't done so already). That's the fast-moving irony of our marketplace these days.

One of the neatest features in the beer blogosphere: [Six-pack of the week, with an efficient picture index](http://www.joesixpack.net/beer.htm?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). Look at the rectangle with seven different beer bottles showing, then move the little cursor and click on a bottle. A description will show up.
