The June issue of The Atlantic came last weekend. I haven't had a chance to read much of it, but I've mined a few interesting things, like a micro-article about a new incest study. The study examined people's views of incest. Its results are unremarkable. I did, however, find this interesting:

The authors also point out that aversion to sibling incest is strongest among siblings of the opposite sex; and it's more intense among women, which might be explained by the innate interest women have in giving birth to healthy children.

The aversion is more intense among women because they want healthy children? Come on! Just apply a little common sense: Women have a better sense of sexual propriety. Their sexual appetites are less beastly (Paris Hilton excepted, of course) than men's. Men are predators and are more likely to be attracted to a sexual opportunity, even if it's twisted.

And even more interesting: the aversion "is strongest among siblings of the opposite sex." That's a surprising thing to see in a MSM publication. The flipside is: the aversion is less strong among siblings of the same sex. Put another way, homosexuals are more amenable to incest. The reason? Please reference my bullet analysis in the previous paragraph.

I've been waiting for the cassette tape obituary, but this is the first one I've seen. From what I can tell, by Christmas a lot (most? all?) stereos won't have cassette deck features, at least in Britain and I assume the U.S. as well. I had a large cassette deck collection. I bought a good stereo system in 1983 and made a lot of my own tapes. I still have many of them, but they're simply too much of a hassle compared with CDs and my IPod. Sad, but technological progress marches on . . . and it's a lot easier to drink six beers and find a song on my IPod than to fast forward to it on the cassette tape.

That's it for now. A charity golf scramble beckons. I golf twice a year. It keeps me humble.
