That's Good Catholic Mocking

In light of John Paul's worsening condition on Saturday, the producers of “Desperate Housewives” edited out a reference to Catholics in Sunday night's episode in which two of the characters are attending a Catholic funeral. One of the characters says, “You have to hand it to the Catholics, they do grief better than anyone.” The producers replaced "Catholics" with a reference to two characters in the show. LINK

That's too bad. The line was a compliment. Grief (with joy) is part of the human estate. To say Catholics do it well, indicates that Catholics “do life” well.

Oh well. We appreciate ABC's efforts to be respectful.
