Podcasts and a Great Board Game

My daughter bought a video iPod with babysitting money and a little cash input from us at Christmas. I've started borrowing it and have plunged into the world of podcasting. There's a lot of neat stuff out there, and it's mostly free. Unfortunately, there's a lot of junk, too. If you want a source of good Catholic podcasts, this site has the best I've seen. Yahoo also has a site of secular podcasts that's alright, but the best assortment is at iTunes. If you're using iTunes, look to the lower righthand corner of the front page. That's where I find a trove of great stuff.

If you know of any good podcast directories or good podcasts, please let me know. Email on left (ejscheske@yahoo.com).

By the way, I know I'm about a year behind the cutting-edge tech curve with my podcast discovery. I'm always a technological year behind, but that's why you can trust me. I'm not easily enamored with new technology, and I almost always wait until the hype dies down (my excursion into blogging notwithstanding) before jumping in.

Also: Please don't forget, I'm looking for manly blogs (see entry last Saturday). This blog gets about 3,500 different ("unique") visitors every month. If just .001 of you send a recommendation, I'll have 3 and a half (maybe the half will be a homosexual blogger--chuckle).

One of the last European hold-outs prepares to fall: Prime Minister Jose Socrates has said abortion will be legalised in Portugal despite the turnout for a referendum being too low to be legally binding. Well under 50% of the voters turned out. Sounds like the majority of Portuguese simply didn't care enough to oppose the activists, yet the country is 90% Catholic. So, they believe that abortion is murder (if their beliefs are consistent with their faith), but they didn't care enough to show up at the polls. Other commentators have pointed out that Europe is too apathetic to save itself from the Muslims, that it has a death wish. This is further evidence.

A board game from the good old days, 1966, the year of my birth: What Shall I Be? The Exciting Game of Career Girls. They cover all the options: Teacher, Nurse, Actress, Model, Ballet Dancer, Airline Hostess. [They left out today's favorite choice among women--Concubine (properly speaking, a non-marital sexual relationship that potentially results in offspring).] Check out the game, all sorts of good laughs.

"The number of wealthy individuals who will pay $50,000 and up for a well-trained butler has outstripped the number of people prepared to execute those jobs with grace and precision." If you're favorably impressed with this development, you're probably unabashedly capitalistic. If you're angry, you're probably a socialist. If you're sad, you're probably one of the elitist who can't find a good butler. If you're nauseated, you might be any number of things, a liberal, a lover of the free market that disdains its excesses, or simply someone who doesn't know what to think about this vibrant yet somehow eerie economy.
