Get ready for more Muslim protests: Benedict XVI warns that peace becomes a mirage when the dignity of woman is not fully respected. A clear shot at Muslim thinking, no? Thing is, I suspect it'll perplex Muslims. "Was this geared to us? And if so, do we riot, and thereby tacitly admit we don't respect women?" The possibility that it wasn't geared to them at all but rather is merely a statement of truth won't occur to them.
You've probably heard that Obama is the presidential front-runner. I've indicated before that Obama might not be all bad. But evidence is surfacing that he is, indeed, all bad: to the left of Hillary, a 100% liberal voting record, pro-abortion, and pro-homosexuality. He's a member of the United Church for Christ, which is pretty much the great haven for homosexuals seeking a mainline Christian home. Here's a link that discusses some of the stuff. Some of the other stuff I heard on Fox News and sundry sources.
The KKK and Muslims finally join together: David Duke speaks at the Holocaust conference in Tehran. You'd think KKK members (I know Duke is merely a former Imperial Wizard, but still) dislike dark-skinned Muslims as much as they hate immigrant Catholics.
Related: I found this interesting: "Among the 67 participants from 30 countries . . . were two rabbis and four other members of the fringe group Jews United Against Zionism."
Are you easy prey for scams? Go here and memorize the Top 10 scams of 2006. It's sad stuff, really. It's hard to believe anyone would fall for these things (number 4 is the Nigerian email scam, which is so pathetic that it's laughable: "Will be you a goodly man to me help . . ."), but they succeed against the elderly and vulnerable.
Is anyone besides me worried about Nicole Richie? It looks like she's been pushed outside of the new-age female rat pack: Lohan, Spears, Hilton . . . but no Richie? I'm having troubles sleeping at night.
Interesting piece at the generally-liberal Chronicle of Higher Education (I'm under the impression that it's run by intellectually honest liberals). The writer points out that conservatives, including some great thinkers (Hayek is the man he references repeatedly) don't get fair play on campuses. This, of course, is obvious, but he gives a good analysis of why it's a bad thing for everyone, including the liberals. Here's the conclusion:
[T]he conservative tradition remains a vital resource of ideas and theories, a heritage that claims world triumphs. To gain it the full measure it warrants – and to bring it to bear wisely on the issues we confront – we need more than conservative pundits on television or in the blogosphere, more than conservative publishers or think tanks. We need to subject it to the full analysis – critical and appreciative – of the academy, to bring conservative works into the classroom and onto the syllabus. It would be healthy for everyone if the academic curriculum broadened its scope, if the lineage of conservatism were consolidated into a respectable course of study
And for fear of ending this post on a too-serious note, I offer this: A fitness instructor is to launch pole dancing classes - for children as young as 11. I might sign up, but I suspect I'll need to wear some protection.
