This is the weekend I became the techno-addict. Two things happened:
1. I got a large-screen TV hooked up downstairs. A product of my parents's hand-me-down benevolence, the picture is good but not great, and it won't accept a high definition signal. No matter. It sits next to the TV we bought back in 1991 with wedding gift money. Both TVs work well. I exercised while watching two football games, cooled down while watching two football games, relaxed for 20 minutes while watching two football games, and ate dinner while watching two football games. It was pretty cool, like sitting in a sports bar, but more comfortable and no bartender to tip. No wonder people are going out less and less at night.
2. I discovered EarthCam.com. I knew about live-streaming video, but didn't know there was a site dedicated to all sorts of different ones. I pulled up the video of Times Square and called Max, aged 3 and fascinated by all things mobile. He sat on the chair, watching the busses, cars, taxis, occasional construction vehicle, pedestrians and other action. Pretty neat. I could see such a thing being particularly engrossing for someone who's stoned. It's no coincidence that my 3-year-old also found it engrossing.
The week looks pretty good. My role at National Catholic Register's Blog Watch is on hold for a few days while they do some website upgrades, and things at the office should be a bit calmer for awhile. You might, just might, see more eudemon postings during the next week or two.
