More and more piling on the baby boomers . . . and deservedly so. Excerpt:
Environmental degradation, social breakdown, rampant consumerism, even disease... is it any wonder that US commentator Joe Queenan (born 1950) once wrote: "If you want the God's honest truth, baby boomers are the most obnoxious people in the history of the human race."
Of course, some commentators are trying to salvage the cultural destruction that are the baby boomers. They say the baby boomers brought us equality and civil rights.
Yawn. The Civil Rights Act of 1964? Legislation by baby boomers? That's a heck of an accomplishment for a bunch of teenagers. Brown v. Board of Education? Was that an eight-year-old Thurgood Marshall in front of the Supreme Court? I know baby boomers "marched for freedom and equal rights," but the problem is, those freedoms and equal rights were already on the way. They marched for them after the battle was won. I might as well march for an end to Prohibition, then sing my praises in thirty years because I defeated teetotalism.
