Whew! I'm back. My third vacation of the year. I got back a few hours ago, and found everything--my house, my office, my blog--in order. It was a good feeling.
I spent the week near Alpena, Michigan, which is in the northern part of Michigan's lower peninsula. My parents have a cottage there that has been in the family since the 1940s. It sits on Lake Huron, on a nice beach, with a little creek that runs next to it and creates a delta. The water doesn't get over my toddlers' heads until they get about twenty yards into the lake. I've gone up there every year of my life, sometimes multiple times.
A few observations, in no particular order:
*Sixteen-month old toddlers are horrible to travel with. Little Tess nearly single-handedly ruined the vacation with constant cries, shrieks, and unintentional mischief.
*The new McDonald's chicken wrap sandwich is excellent.
*I didn't get on the Internet for over seven days. That's my longest stretch in over two years. It was nice. It got me thinking all sorts of McLuhanite thoughts. Nonetheless, it felt great to fire up the cable connection this evening.
*It also felt great to turn on the TV. I rarely watch (for real; I'm not like the people who watch over an hour most nights and claim they don't watch much TV), but I really appreciate it when I've been without it for awhile.
Regular blogging will resume Sunday morning, but since Sunday is my blogging day off (except the Something for Sunday Morning), you probably won't see much here until Monday.
