A reader asks about demands that the Israeli response not be disproportionate:
Disproportionate to what? To the kidnapping of two soldiers? To the firing of rockets toward civilian targets in Israel? Do they really have such a misunderstanding of what Israel is responding to? Israel is not answering just these incidents, but the threat of annihilation. Now, granted the Vatican and the Europeans have “deplored” the threat to destroy Israel. (One might question whether that has been a proportionate response, but oh, well.) Israel is, at this point, the tip of the only spear of resistance to radical Islam's intended destruction of the West. The jihadists see Israel as standing in their way. So then, one wants to ask the Vatican, what is a proportionate response to the threat of annihilation? No, Rome, not Israel's annihilation, yours.
