Leary Follow-up

In response to my post about Timothy Leary, one of my most knowledgeable and intellectually-reliable readers wrote to me:

I tend to doubt the rendering of McLuhan's advice, but I don't doubt that he was sympathetic to the psychedelic cause. Many Catholics or near-Catholics were. Claire Boothe Luce and her hubby Henry dabbled in LSD (see the account in Wilfrid Sheed's biography of CBL). And R.C. Zaehner -- who wrote the academic book on shroomysticism -- eventually converted to Catholicism.
