The lower-priced beer is advertising on National Public Radio. Why? Two reasons: (1) It's cheap; (2) It fits with the "hip" reputation it has recently acquired with college students and recent graduates.
Pabst is hip again? Far out. I drink Pabst. Therefore, I must be hip. Maybe they'd want to sponsor this blog. They can just send the six packs straight to my door or send me vouchers.
In all seriousness, if you don't drink Pabst, you're missing out. It's inexpensive and good. Perhaps the most underrated mass-consumption beer in America today.
When I was a kid in the 1970s, it always seemed like Budweiser and Pabst were the two top beers. Then Pabst just kind of died out. My brother-in-law (who worked in the beer industry for years) told me that Pabst didn't embrace advertising, whereas Bud exploded its advertising efforts. The result is obvious: the bad beer won. But for those "in the know," Pabst is a lot cheaper and a lot better.
A few lovely pictures:
Note: Thanks to readers who sent along BYCU items this week. It made for a fecund Friday.
