I like the little literary anecdotes. I found this one in The Ong Reader. If you know about Wyndham Lewis' challenging personality, you'll get a kick out of it:
Marshall McLuhan tells this story on himself. He and his wife frequently had Wyndham Lewis as a dinner guest. One evening Lewis called about an hour before dinner and asked what was going to be served. Ham. And what sort of wine? Marshall mentioned some popular table wine, and Lewis said, "Well, I'll come another night."
Maybe it's just me, but things like that crack me up.
