Miscellaneous Rambling: Olympics

Ceiling. Trastevere

We're enjoying the Olympics so far. The Roku helps a lot. I get to see a lot of sports that NBC doesn't show on the network (which might be why their ratings are so bad this year). I don't know why NBC shows so much cycling and swimming. They must be two of the worst spectator sports of all time, but NBC loves to show 'em. For me, give me Usain Bolt every time he runs, plus lots of table tennis, handball, rugby, badminton, beach volleyball, and weightlifting.

I've even kinda enjoyed watching a little men's field hockey. I didn't even know such a thing exists. I woulda thought "men's field hockey" and "men's breasts" were similar concepts, but apparently not. It's not bad viewing.

NBC has also managed to botch up the streaming coverage that one can get through a Roku: They are conflating the genders. So, for instance, if you try to click on "table tennis," you don't know until it loads whether you're getting women's or men's. Believe it or not, there's a huge difference between the two, and it takes a minute or two to load, so there's a rush of frustration when you get two women. I also have no doubt that NBC, out of political correctness, is slanting the coverage in favor of the women, so for every men's match I find, I have to click through three women's. Frustrating.

But I'm thankful that I have a life blessed enough that such first world problems even register on my radar.

I know nothing about the world scene in ping pong, but I've noticed that pretty much every country finds Asians to play for them. I'm pulling for Slovakia's Yang Wang. Great name.
