Britain's highest representative at the Vatican, who had been tipped to become a cardinal, has been moved sideways because of his "lifestyle", it was reported yesterday. . .

It was known that Pope Benedict and the archbishop have differing views on doctrine and the fact that the Pope didn't even inform him personally of his post is being seen as a sign of displeasure with him.

I realize it's not funny, but I chuckled at that last line. "A sign of displeasure" is indicated by not calling the guy personally? I'd be far more bummed that a press release went out, implying that I'm gay. What else are people going to think when they see you've been demoted by the Pope due to your lifestyle? That you're spending a lot of time at karaoke bars?
