United Schizoids of America:

> About a fifth of Americans think federal agents have listened in on their phone calls, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll released Tuesday suggests.

> Twenty-one percent of the 1,000 adults who replied to the survey conducted Thursday through Sunday said it was very likely or somewhat likely their conversations had been wiretapped, while 52 percent said it was not at all likely.

Twenty-one percent? That seems pretty high, but that's nothing for us weird Americans:

> \[A\] national poll conducted by Opinion Dynamics Corporation shows that about a third of Americans believe in ghosts (34 percent) and an equal number in UFOs (34 percent), and about a quarter accept things like astrology (29 percent), reincarnation (25 percent) and witches (24 percent).

And heck, even if the feds listened to some of my home conversations, what would they have heard? Let's see: My 11-year-old daughter making sleep-over plans for tonight. Me calling my wife and seeing whether my new CD came in the mail that I ordered from half.com. People calling to ask my wife how her broken foot is doing. I suspect after a couple of hours, the eavesdropping agent would either kill himself from boredom or quit.
