This U.S. News & World Report story talks about the need to break down the privacy barriers that protect sperm donors from being identified by their offspring. The children want to know their fathers, the children need to know their medical history, the children want to make sure they don't marry their half-siblings, and--perhaps most troubling--it appears these test tube babies have medical problems that weren't found in their fathers. The article doesn't make the connection, but it's fair to ask: How many of these medical defects arise because of the test tube process itself? It's a disturbing "Brave New World" piece.
