From the Gardening Journals

Now I've done it.

I came upstairs a few days ago and announced to Marie, "I just bought a pop-up coldframe greenhouse. At this point, I won't be buying anything for the garden except a handful of seeds and potting mix."

Marie jumped on that and said, "There's no way. What do I get if you buy more than that?"

She was, in part, referring to last year, when I made a similar announcement, then ended up buying six high-qualify tomato cages, a diamond hoe, a wheel hoe, and a stirrup hoe.

She said a similar thing has happened pretty much every year.

So we wagered: I'd only buy seed and potting mix this year from this point forward. Maximum amount to be spent: $100. She even made it easy on me and snarked, "If you can keep it to $100 through May, you win the bet."

So now I'm stuck . . . and have since found about five gardening things I want to buy, but don't need.

I'm standing pat. Day 3 and hangin' tough.
