New Year
Happy New Year. Consistent with TDE tradition, no blogging today, though I will take a moment to reflect upon what one of the announcers said toward the end of the game last night: "You have to wonder what a loss like this does to the Michigan State brand."
Exactly. The MSU football brand is this: A mediocre program with flashes of greatness, like in 1965-1966, 1987 (kinda), and 2013-2014. They're not an historically elite program that occasionally stumbles, like Michigan stumbled in the early 1960s and stumbled for half of the 2000s, or like Oklahoma stumbled for much of the 1990s, or like Alabama stumbled off-and-on from 1997 to 2007, or like Notre Dame stumbled much of the 1980s and then stumbled sporadically for the last dozen years.
I said it earlier: MSU does not have a very good team this year. They coulda (shoulda?) been 7-5. They should've loss to an atrocious Purdue team and sub-par Rutgers team. Dantonio has done a good job with this program, but it's not elite and this year's team isn't nearly as good as last year's team. I congratulate MSU on a good run, but accept it for what it is.
