Idol Art
At first, I scoffed, but this might not be half bad. Probably a lot of homosexuals, but maybe I'll learn more about art. Then again, it might be filled with all that modern-art crap.
You knew it was inevitable. An event that sounds like "The Apprentice" meets "American Idol" is coming to the art world.
Yes, the art world will soon have its own reality television show, "Artstar," set to debut June 1 on the Dish Network. Its energetic news release describes the show as an "intriguing, sometimes tense, and sometimes hilarious look at what it takes to make it in the art capital of the world (New York)."
Composed of eight one-hour episodes, the event features eight aspiring artists who submit their artwork -- and likely their lives -- to probable withering critiques by New York dealer Jeffrey Deitch and other critics, collectors and curators. More than 400 artists apparently auditioned for the show, which culminates in a solo exhibit for the winner at one of Deitch's galleries.
