The Weekend Eudemon

Ouch, long night and longer morning. My children's parochial school held its annual Mardi Gras Auction Party last night: lots of neat auction items, food, cash bar (inexpensive lubricants to catalyze bidding), DJ, door prizes. I was in charge of setting up the bar (requiring me to pick up four kegs, 440 pounds of ice, 50 2-liter bottles of pop, ten boxes of wine, and some rum and vodka), drinking at the bar, spending a lot of money on stuff I might never use, and cleaning up the bar after the evening. I ended up getting to bed at 1:00 a.m., which is quite late for me (I'm a 9:00ish bedtime guy).

It appears the Party was a success. We're still crunching numbers, but we cleared well over $25,000. That's a lot of money. The public schools could probably educate three kids for a year with kind of dough.

Change of subject: I'm rooting for the Seahawks, if you're curious. Nothing against the Steelers, but every sports commentator this side of Maui said the NFC isn't worthy of carrying the AFC's jock strap this year. More than once, I heard that at least four AFC teams were better than every team in the NFC. I though the hype was overblown, and now it looks like I might have been right. We'll see tomorrow.

I'm moving a bit slowly this morning, so that's it for this week.
