I had a great day last Sunday: getting the garden ready for winter. It's possibly my most pleasant task of the year: pulling up the tomato and pepper plants that were destroyed by Saturday night's freeze, adding to the compost pile, doing light fall landscaping, dumping my temporary worm bin's vermicompost into my finished compost, emptying my containers, churning the soil, etc.
Even though I'm still gathering greens and hope it continues until Thanksgiving, I'm ready to give my annual grades for each crop:
Strawberries: A+
Currants: F
Blackberries: F
Raspberries: B
Peas: A-
Zucchinis: C-
Cucumbers: A
Winter Squash: F
Pumpkins: C
Gourds: B
Lettuce: A
Kale: A-
Spinach: B+
Beans: B
Peppers: A-
Cherry Tomatoes: A-
Grapes: D-
Southern Greens: B-
Broccoli: C+
