I love it when two hobbies come together, especially when one of the hobbies is drinking. This email I received from a TDE reader combines vodka and gardening:

"So, two years ago, we bought a small hops vine, just for fun. Year 1, it grew a little but didn't do much. This year, it really took off, filled up a six-foot trellis and invaded the nearby shrubs. There's a nice batch of hop blossoms--probably not enough to brew with, which I don't do, anyhow.

"One of my sisters said that hops are supposed to be a pain reliever, so I found this recipe for a hops tincture, basically one part hops to four parts vodka, let age for two weeks. Interesting flavor. I thought it would be really bitter, but it's actually a nice flavor. In small doses."

The TDE reader links to this site: [Defeating Pain](https://defeatingpain.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/hoppity-hops/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). Lots of helpful hints for using hops in general.

I don't have a lot of pain in my life right now, but I have a lot of vodka and a friend of mine has a bunch of hops that he doesn't know what to do with. I just might try this concoction.
