Monday Miscellany

Yeah, my apologies for the lame blogging lately. I'm struggling just to post something. Fortunately, I think I've found enough whimsical stuff to justify your click over here. If not, well, you already have my apology. * * * * * * * Will things improve this week? Yeah, a little. I have a mild rant about small talk scheduled for tomorrow. After that, I don't know. We'll see what the week brings. * * * * * * * Remember that you can also catch my stuff at my parish's blog, The Leisurely Catholic. * * * * * * * The archon of secular humanism, Slate, looks at the bodies of incorrupt saints. It's not a bad piece, given the source. Lots of pics. * * * * * * * Happy 24 anniversary to my lovely wife, Marie. We are celebrating our 25th later this year with a trip to London. In preparation, I'm reading Peter Ackroyd's London, The Biography. Mr. Ackroyd is gay, but he's a heckuva writer and, I think, a person of intellectual good faith . . . as much as any of us are, anyway. * * * * * * * Well, crap: "The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts it will be super cold with a slew of snow for much of the country." * * * * * * * Maybe all that cold will kill the weeds in my garden. Two years ago, I buried everything in wood chips. They're decomposing now and giving way to new grass growth and weeds. I'm hoping my discovery of the diamond hoe and oscillating hoe will allow me to keep the unwanted vegetation in check with very little stooping next year. For the rest of this year, I've pretty much given up on trying to conquer them.
