Miscellaneous Rambling

I got terribly excited Saturday night. On my way back from a local watering hole, which followed an extended stay at my town's righteous annual music festival, Marie told me that my nephew and his fiance were on their way to New York. I guess they just decided to pick up and go, which is exactly the kind of thing unweighted young people like them ought to do. The fact that they were going to NYC, combined with a bunch of vodka, fired up a romantic streak in me. Long-time TDE readers probably recall that New York is "one of my hobbies." I was so excited, I came back and engaged in another one of my hobbies, drunken TV watching, but instead of flipping through channels, I searched for "New York" on the Roku. It brought up a documentary, New York in the Fifties. I'm normally not a big fan of documentaries, but this one was really good. * * * * * * * At the beginning of the documentary, the narrator said, "New York in the fifties was like Paris in the twenties." It was the "in" place, the cutting edge of all things cultural. It got me wondering, what is the 1920s Paris and 1950s New York today? San Francisco? Sydney? Maybe it's still New York. * * * * * * * A segment on the Catholic Worker Movement begins at minute 53, if you care to check it out. * * * * * * * Sorry for the slow blogging lately. Things have been nuts at the office. * * * * * * * I've pretty much run out of GKC Shorts. I have a few left, but at this point, "GKC Wednesdays" are TDE history. * * * * * * *
