Gay in Virginia
One thing blogging has taught me: the nuggets are often at the bottom of a news story. Headlines are often misleading (if not downright false). The first couple paragraphs contain the gist of the story, along with the writer's ideological slant. But if you want the good stuff, sometimes you have to go to the bottom. This morning's WaPo, for instance, discusses the looming constitutional ban on same-sex "marriage" in Virginia. Toward the bottom, I saw this:
Democratic leaders have been discussing a strategy that would enable them to voice a clear position without hurting candidates. They're concerned the ruling could galvanize Ehrlich's conservative base, increasing Election Day turnout for him and other Republicans.
Their voters don't want gay marriage, so the Democratic leaders are trying to come up with a position to oppose their voters, without looking like they're opposing them. Apparently, they just can't be honset about their stance.
