The weirdo Catholic cult known as Opus Dei is trying to keep impressionable youngsters from seeing the big-screen adaption of "The Da Vinci Code."
In the bestselling novel, the chief villain is a psychotic monk who does contract killings for the Catholic Church -- and he's a member in good standing of Opus Dei.
A spokesman for the bizarre arch-conservative fanatics said, "Any adult can distinguish reality from fiction. But you cannot expect a child to make proper judgements."
But like any extremist cult, Opus Dei wouldn't exist without a ready supply of adults who have serious problems distinguishing reality from fiction.
Opus Dei is demanding the movie be rated Adults Only.
The weird offshoot of the Roman Church was founded in 1928 by a crazy Spaniard after he had mystical visions. The new pope, former Nazi Joseph Ratzinger, is a big fan of Opus Dei.
