Monday Miscellany
After reading The Leek last Tuesday, eldest son Alex told me that there is already a Catholic Onion out there: Eye of the Tiber. It looks pretty good. About themselves: "We were the only Catholic news agency to report that Pope Francis had picked up a midnight shift at McDonald's to help the poor. We were the first to report that a dissident Legionary was parting his hair in the middle. And readers of our distinguished site were first to learn when the civil liberties organization American Atheists sued to remove the letter's 'G,' 'O,' and 'D' from the alphabet." * * * * * * * This headline really cracked me up: Peter Jackson Announces Plans for 72-Part Movie Series of The Silmarillion. Of the five main Tolkien books, The Silmarillion was my favorite. Alas, none of my kids could "get into it." I would think a thoughtful producer and director could make a good Netflix series out of it. * * * * * * * Based on this, it appears Peter Jackson is interesting in adapting The Silmarillion. That, I fear, would be a catastrophe. I wouldn't have said that after The Lord of the Rings, but after the debacle that is The Hobbit trilogy, I wouldn't trust Jackson to adapt an Aesop fable. * * * * * * * Emmaus Road Publishing is now an arm of Scott Hahn's St. Paul Center. To celebrate, they're giving away, via eBook, copies of Hahn's Understanding 'Our Father.' (Note: I tried it, but I couldn't get the eBook to download. Probably a problem on my end, but if you get a bit frustrated, you're not alone.)* * * * * * * Interesting piece: How Companies Mask Runaway Inflation. Though I don't think there is runaway inflation, I do think there's a lot more such inflation than the official figures let on, so companies are masking it: "Consumer-products makers have used similar tactics as a way of pushing through effective price increases for everything from laundry detergent and tissues to yogurt and candy bars. In the food industry, it's called “weight-out,” or putting less cereal or potato chips into a package. In toilet paper, the term is “de-sheeting,” when the number of tissues in a box or sheets on a toilet-paper roll are reduced." * * * * * * * Is this even wrong any more, in light of the penised-Caitlynn Jenner? NAACP Leader Rachel Dolezal Allegedly Faked Being A Black Woman For Years. If you "feel" you're black, you're black. Subjective, wholly-unaccountable, un-measurable feelings are the sole standard now. If she feels black, she's black. * * * * * * * Get off her black.
