Miscellaneous Rambling

Whew, another long weekend out of the way; one step closer to death. Little league game Friday night, followed by graduation parties (straight from fields, change into decent clothes in the back of my van, to parties). Blessed hours of gardening Saturday morning, then slept off grogginess from Friday parties. Coffee shop with Abbie, then another graduation party. Sunday morning graduation Mass, followed by breakfast, then high school graduation ceremony, followed by family dinner. * * * * * * * I don't like graduations. I'm intensely sad when a child leaves home and graduation is the coffin the lid, yet I'm supposed to be happy and celebrating. And the ceremony itself, of course, is boring. I find the emotional tensions tiring. * * * * * * * But the graduation parties so far have been pretty good. I'm grateful for that, even if it means I'm drinking more than I like. * * * * * * * In response to the Jenner essay Saturday, a reader writes, "Why he is heralded as a hero: don't forget the apparent victory over masculinity -- why else is there the obsessive search over finding a pro male athlete (in a "masculine" sport) who is gay?" * * * * * * * Why remain Catholic? A growing number of links and personal anecdotes can be found here. I haven't scratched the surface yet, but it looks like a good assortment. * * * * * * * You've heard of The Onion, America's Finest News Source? Get ready for The Leek.
