I've never understood minimum wage legislation. If you increase the cost of something, people will buy less of it. I thought that was a rule, along the lines of, "If you spit on someone, that person is less likely to enjoy your company." Sure, there are exceptions (e.g., increase the price and thereby increase its allure to the numbskull shopper; find a masochistic friend), but as a general proposition, such things seem pretty ironclad.
